Breastfeeding in public is still way too much taboo in Mexico, but not only there, in many other places in the world as well.
Back in 2014 the country had some of the lowest breastfeeding rates in all of Latin America, with only 14% of mothers breastfeeding their babies exclusively for their first 6 months, and the latest figures show rates at 30%, which is still below the world’s average, which is 41%.
Back in 2015, the country has banned free baby formula giveaways from the hospitals, in order to increase breastfeeding rates.
Yet, the shaming breastfeeding mothers in public should never be tolerated.
Melanie Dudley, a mother of three was on vacation in Mexico in Cabo San Lucas, and she says that it was about 90 degrees outside, when a man in the restaurant came up to her and asked to cover up herself while she was breastfeeding her newborn.
Despite that the request was outrageous, she asked her husband to give her something to cover up herself, but she covered up herself in a legendary way.
She still continued to breastfeed her baby, and she put her baby’s blanket on her head.
She kept nursing her child, and hung her infant’s sweeping overhead!
She claims it was anything but a salacious fight or anything, yet she was left speechless and covered her head instead. Now, her husband snapped a brisk photograph to recognize her extremely valuable reaction and sent it to his mom.
She posted it on Facebook, and it wasn’t long when a friend asked whether she could share the image.
It turned into a web sensation when it was uploaded on Facebook, and many individuals upheld her response, saying that she should not be embarrassed for feeding her child at whatever point it is hungry.
The photograph has 138, 000 reactions, 40,000 comments, and 226,000 shares.
In July 2018, public breastfeeding was legalized in each of the 50 states, however moms are as yet getting shamed for it. It appears that individuals need more time to acknowledge it as a natural requirement.
However, many breastfeeding mothers are asked to feed their babies in the bathroom of the restaurant, yet nobody else eats in the bathroom, but a little infant.
Also, how can some fashionable and some extremely revealing clothes not be banned and considered to be decent, and breastfeeding can be inappropriate?
That’s why we need to accept it and normalize it completely!
