If you own a pet, ticks and fleas are your nightmare and your worst enemy, and you are probably looking for a way to save your furry friend from these attacks. Bites from insects cause scratching and itching, which therefore causes infections, skin inflammation and hair loss, as well as the allergic reactions.

Below is the recipe of a very effective and natural insect repellent:

  • 1/2 cup of Neem Powder
  • 1/2 cup of Yarrow Powder
  • 1 cup of Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth
  • 20 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil (don’t use it with cats)

The neem powder has very powerful blood-purifying, anti-viral, anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiseptic properties, also it can prevent your pet from ants, mites, lice, ticks, mosquitos, and fleas, and also it alleviates skin irritations.

The yarrow powder is a herb that hes powerful healing abilities, it can treat wounds and it has strong pain-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory properties.

Food grade diatom flour or also known as Diatomaceous earth (DE), is siliceous and soft sedimentary rock that is filled with fossilized remains of diatoms, which is a type of a hard-shelled algae. It is a strong insect repellent and causes scratching of the insect’s bodies that dehydrates them.

It is perfect against spiders, ticks, fleas, crickets, cockroaches, bed bugs and other pests.

Eucalyptus oil is a well known insect repellent, it can act as an antiseptic and can eliminate fleas, due to its antiseptic properties, which can soothe insect bites.

Mix the ingredients in a jar with shaker lid, then sprinkle along the spine of your pet, and brush the fur in the opposite direction while doing it. Make sure to rub it on their tail, legs and belly as well, but make sure it is away from their nose and eyes.

It is enough to do it once a month, as a preventative measure. But if there is an active infestation, use it on daily basis. Once every week add it in the pet’s bed, on the floors, windowsills and furnishings, and let it stay overnight. And vacuum the morning after.

Make sure you follow these tips in order to protect your pets:

  • Make sure your pets are inside at dusk and dawn.
  • Check your pet for ticks or fleas often.
  • If you live in a house, make sure your lawn is not a mess, therefore you pet won’t ever encounter any ticks over there.
  • Keep your home clean, outside and inside.
  • Bathe your pet with shampoo often, because that is the best way to protect it from pests.
