Nearly Extinct Pink Dolphin Gives Birth To Pink Calf

Everybody loves dolphins, but nobody knew that dolphins can be even cuter than they actually know them to be – when they’re pink! And the good news is that this very rare pink dolphin mom, named Pinky, gave birth to a pink calf.

Pinky became very popular, when she was seen first by Captain Erik Rue in the Calcasieu River in Louisiana, 12 years ago. He saw her swimming in the area regularly, and mating with other dolphins, and even depicted her as ‘sexually active’.

The video of Pink and her newborn was posted on Pinky’s Facebook Page, by Thomas Adams and the video is showing them both jumping close to a boat in the Calcasieu Ship Channel.

According to the experts, Pinky is a very rare river dolphin, who got her pink color from a very rare genetic mutation! The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) listed the species as ‘endangered to vulnerable’, and the population of dolphins is decreasing, with only a couple of tens of thousands left in the world.

The introduction of the calf gives us trust that calves have acquired their mom’s hereditary transformation which would help in the exertion of expanding the number of inhabitants in uncommon species.

Captain Rue said that the dolphin’s entire body is pink, from its tip to its tail, and the eyes are red. Its skin is glossy and smooth.

Pinky isn’t influenced by the earth or daylight however he said that it will in general stay underneath the surface more than different individuals from the unit. She’s a fantastic warm blooded creature that carries bliss to local people, and visitors are excited at the chance to see this one of a kind and magnificent animal.

Bridget Boudreaux saw Pinky and her baby in the river a while ago. She saw them both jumping and swimming around. Seeing the mom and her new born baby was a very cool experience for her, and she asked the captain if they could stop the boat so that she has more time to watch them and enjoy.
